Studio Policies NEW STUDENTS: (To sign up, fill out the form at the bottom of this page)
TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES It is Wolfgang Music Academy's desire to teach your child the language and love of music! Our studio has a positive and enthusiastic environment. Especially for beginners, piano study needs to be fun and interactive with a variety of activities to keep young learners interested. The curriculum will be tailored to match your child’s specific learning needs and age/ level.
PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING: From Day 1, beginner students learn to get comfortable singing, clapping, moving, and improvising in a piano or voice lesson. They learn to understand the structure of music, including chords, form, and improvisation. More intermediate students will start to learn to write their own melodies and songs, and begin working on technique, including scales, arpeggios, and transposition. Wolfgang Music Academy uses the FABER PIANO ADVENTURES series.
STUDENT & FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES Students agree to arrive at each lesson punctually, well-prepared, and with their assignment books and a pencil. To make good progress, daily quality practice is necessary. Depending on the age, 5-15 minutes a day is appropriate for beginners. For intermediate students, 20 - 30 minutes is ideal. For young musicians, weekly parent involvement and encouragement is crucial to their success and growth. The students whose parents are most involved show the most progress.
All students are encouraged to play at the two recitals we have each year: the Fall/ Winter Recital and the Spring Recital. Recitals are held at Ruggero Piano, 4720 Hargrove Rd #120, Raleigh, NC 27616. A $35 recital fee will be charged to each registered family. Students must have a full-size acoustic or electronic piano (w/ pedal) at home, in good working order. If doing virtual lessons, the device needs to be aimed at the keyboard so the teacher can see the student's hands and piano. If siblings or parents are present during lessons, they need to observe only and limit any distractions.
2023 - 2024 TUITION Tuition for a private 30-min weekly lesson is $125/ month. This reserves your weekly time slot and is due by the 1st lesson of each month. This monthly fee takes into account holidays and vacations, and so runs 10 months from September to June for a total of 34 yearly sessions. No lessons will be held on Spring Break, Thanksgiving week, and Christmas Break. There is a $20 Late Fee for all payments received past the 10th of the month.
Tuition is non-refundable and can be paid by check, cash, or transfer (Apple pay, Venmo, Zelle). Tuition does not include the cost of music. Students should expect to spend approximately $50 a year on repertoire.
Please Note: There are no reimbursements for missed lessons (cancelled by student) Makeups are available for qualified missed lessons, on a space-available basis. In extenuating circumstances, a credit may be given for future lessons.
CANCELLATIONS/ MAKEUPS
Any lesson that WMA teacher cancels will be made up or a credit will be given.
WMA will accommodate 3 makeup lessons per household per term (Our 2 Terms are Fall/Winter & Spring). If more than 3 lessons are cancelled per semester, makeups cannot be guaranteed, due to the teacher's full teaching schedule.
Each term, certain days will be designated as “makeup days”. These days will be posted at the beginning of each term, and students can reserve a space on a first-come first-serve basis. This will allow students to catch up with missed lessons.
If cancellations are known in advance (travel or other obligation), the earlier notice is given, the more likely makeups can be scheduled.
If a lesson is cancelled, for any reason, with less than 12 hours notice, the lesson is forfeited.
Makeups must be scheduled in the term they were accrued, and will not be carried over into future terms.
SUMMER TERM Lessons in the summer follow a different schedule than the school year. Families can continue taking weekly lessons or choose another less intensive plan. If not continuing weekly over the summer, students are still encouraged to take a minimum of 4- 6 summer lessons to help them retain knowledge over break. Lessons are scheduled based on your preferences at the beginning of the summer. Summer lessons are flexible and made to fit your schedule, to allow for vacations and time off.
STUDIO HOLIDAYS Most studio breaks coincide with the school systems in this area, but some school holidays are not observed and lessons will occur. The schedule will be posted in advance of each term. Holidays are not included in your tuition, however, some holidays may be available for makeup lessons if the teacher is available.
If you need to miss a lesson for travel or other reason, please know there is no makeup guaranteed beyond the 3 makeup allowance. Monthly tuition is not changed for travel or missed lessons.
COMMITMENT When students enroll, they are reserving their place in the studio for the entire school year. If you would like to exit the program, one months notice in writing is required. This will allow time to fill your space.
PHOTO AND VIDEO RELEASE From time to time photos and short videos of students are posted on this site or on Facebook and Instagram. These videos and posts are helpful to other teachers and help WMA gain new students. If you do not want your child's image(s) to be used, please let me know. In general, the students love to see their pictures and videos on my website or teaching page. They find it motivating and exciting to think that others want to know what they are learning. The students are not identified.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT I understand that by enrolling and paying tuition for my child in Wolfgang Music Academy's studio, I certify that I understand and agree to the studio policies for the 2023 - 2024 academic year.
